'We have reached an agreement on EU citizens in the UK' says Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab after Brexit talks with the EU
EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier says "a large part" of the Brexit deal has been agreed, including the issue of citizens' rights - but warns that "the job does not stop here"
These are issues @MichelBarnier said open for progress based on Brexit white paper: 1) exchange of DNA, fingerprints and vehicle info. 2) Passenger name records to track crime, terror suspects 3) Swift and effective extradition based on procedural rights for suspects Security
"We both want to conclude in October with a deal, with a deal," @MichelBarnier alongside @DominicRaab
Getting explicit on what Brexit White Paper makes possible, @MichelBarnier lays out series of areas of cooperation opened up by UK shifts. Include swift extradition arrangement, sharing of some crime data and more foreign and defense cooperation.
Next Brexit negotiations skedded for mid-August, says @MichelBarnier. Says UK promised to come back with concrete proposals to deal with EU concerns about the UK wide backstop.
UK wants a clear timeframe in the Withdrawal Agreement - read deadline - for EU to turn declaration on future relaitonship into an actual trade etc agreement, says @DominicRaab. Not sure how EU can bind national parliaments to that.
